Amrita Beauty Parlour

The parlour is on Rajarhat Road in the Rajarhat Gopalpur area. We are right opposite the State Bank of India in New Town, Kolkata 700136. It is a developing part of the city, so there is always construction noise and lots of dust. Amrita Beauty Parlour is just a straightforward place. We have a couple of rooms for different things. The front area has the mirrors and the swivel chairs. I keep the thread, the wax, and the hairpins in small plastic boxes on the table. It is not a luxury salon. It is just a place for the women living in the nearby apartments to come for their regular grooming. The lighting is bright enough to see the small hairs. Sometimes the electricity goes out, but we have a backup for the lights. The floor is tiled and easy to clean, which is good because we get a lot of foot traffic. I see the same ladies every few weeks. We talk about the local markets or the new buildings coming up. It feels like a small community even though the city is growing so fast around us. I don't use any fancy marketing tricks. People just see the board when they go to the bank and they come in. It is a basic setup, but it works for us and for the people who live around here. We just do the work and close up when it gets late.
