We are up on the fourth floor of number 158 on Akkipet Main Road. It’s right across the street from Kumar Medicals, which makes it easier for people to find us when they are coming for the first time. The stairs can be a bit much if you aren't used to them, but we have been here for a while now. Swadesi Bunai Silai is mostly about getting the sewing and weaving work done without making a big fuss about it. We have a few machines running most of the day and there is always some fabric lying around that needs to be cut or stitched. The area is pretty crowded during the day, so there is always noise from the street coming up to the windows. We don't really have a fancy office or anything like that. It is just a place where we sit and work on the orders that come in. Sometimes the power goes out or the delivery trucks get stuck in the narrow lane, but we just manage as best as we can. We started this because we knew how to handle the needles and the thread, and Akkipet is a good place for this kind of work. Most of the people working here live nearby, so we all know each other pretty well. It isn't a huge operation, just enough of us to keep things moving and get the clothes ready for whoever needs them. We just stick to what we know.
