Our group is based at Gut No 9/1 in Georai Payaga, which is a bit of a way out in the Aurangabad area. Narayan Sable is usually the one you’ll see around the place if you drop by. We are a shetkari producer company, which is just a fancy way of saying we are a bunch of farmers working as a team. The building we use is pretty simple and is mostly used for storage and meeting up to talk about the business. We deal with all the typical stuff that comes with farming in this part of Maharashtra, like worrying about the rain and the cost of seeds. There isn't any polish here; our boots are usually dirty and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint. We spend our time checking the quality of the produce that comes in and trying to find the best way to get it to the markets. It’s a busy life, especially during the harvest months when everyone is working long hours. We don't have a big staff or a marketing department. It’s just us, the local growers, trying to make a living. The road to Ge Paiga isn't always in the best shape, but we make do with what we have. We just keep our heads down and focus on the work, taking pride in the fact that we know our crops better than anyone else does. When the harvest comes in, the whole place smells like grain and dust, and we’re all working until late at night.
