Mahagaon Krushimahila Farmers Producer Company Limited is a group of women working out of Mahalgav in Vaijapur. You can find us at house number 532, which is Pancsila Devidas Jadav’s place. We are all from around here and we’ve been farming these fields for a long time. This company was formed so we could have our own way of doing things. In Mahalgav, everyone works hard, but the women often do a lot of the heavy lifting without much recognition. We decided to change that by organizing ourselves. It’s a busy house most days. There are always kids running around while we try to figure out the logistics of selling our produce. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning. We sit on the floor or on benches and talk about what needs to be done. We deal with all sorts of crops that grow in the Vaijapur area. Sometimes we have disagreements about how to spend the company money, but we always work it out because we are neighbors first. It’s not a corporate thing with meetings and minutes, though we do try to keep our records straight in the ledger. We just want to be able to support our families and keep our farms going. It’s practical and it’s real life for us. We aren't trying to impress anyone, just doing the work that needs to be done every day to survive.
