It might seem a bit strange to have a farmers group based out of Flat No. 6 in Panchvati Apartment, but that is where we are. Rajiv Nagar is a bit more of a city area in the Cidco Colony, but all of us have our roots back in the fields. We use the flat as a home base because it is central and easy for people to reach when they are coming in from the surrounding villages. Krushilakshmi Farmer Producer Company Limited is basically just us trying to organize the logistics of moving what we grow. The living room of the apartment is usually full of ledgers and samples of grain or whatever else is in season. It gets a bit cramped when five or six of us are trying to have a meeting while someone’s kids are running around in the next room. We don't have a shiny sign outside, just a small bit of paper on the door. Living in the colony means we are close to the markets, which helps when we need to check on prices or talk to the buyers. It’s a lot of phone calls and scribbling notes on the back of old envelopes. We aren't trying to be some big corporate entity; we are just trying to use this space in the city to help our families back on the farms get a better deal. It is noisy with the traffic outside, but it works for our needs and keeps us connected.
