Jamsamarth Shetkari Producer Company Limited is based in the village of Tandulwadi. We are in the Gangapur area of the Aurangabad district, though many people use the new name for the city now. Our office is just a small place in the village where we keep our records and meet with other farmers. We are all shetkari here, so we spend more time in the fields than behind a desk. We started this company because we wanted to have more control over how our produce is sold. It’s not a big operation with a lot of money. Most of our equipment is old, and we do a lot of things by hand. When harvest time comes, the office gets very busy with people coming in to register their yields. We don't have any marketing experts or polished brochures. We just talk to the people we’ve known all our lives. The electricity in Tandulwadi can be unreliable, so we often end up doing our books by candlelight or just waiting until the power comes back on. It’s a slow pace of life, but the work is hard. We aren't trying to be the biggest company around. We just want to make sure the local farmers can keep their farms going. It’s a struggle sometimes, but we are used to it by now.
