Shri Purshottambhai Kuberbhai Patel Secondary School

This secondary school is located right in the middle of Umreth, which is a part of the Anand district. It is an older style of building with these very high windows that let in a lot of breeze when we open them up. We mostly deal with the older kids who are currently getting ready for their next big steps in life, like college or finding work. Because of that, the atmosphere in the hallways is usually a little more serious and quiet than a primary school. We have a small courtyard right in the center of the building where we hold the assembly every morning. The walls in the main hallway have some old, framed photos of past students who did well in their exams years ago. We do not have a lot of new technology or computers, so we mostly rely on the teachers' voices and the standard textbooks. Our desks are long wooden benches where three or four students have to sit together. It can be a bit of a tight squeeze, but the kids do not seem to mind it much. In the late afternoons, the sun hits the front of the school directly and it gets quite warm in the classrooms. We have a few ceiling fans that hum along loudly while the lessons are going on. Parents often come by on Saturdays to check on how their kids are doing. We just sit on the plastic chairs in the office and talk.
