Nootan Vidya Mandir

Morning starts early here in Kasor. The school gate is usually pushed open by seven because some kids like to get here before the heat really kicks in. Nootan Vidya Mandir has been sitting on this same plot of land for quite a few years now. It’s not a big fancy building like you see in the cities. It is just a practical place made of bricks and cement with a small playground that gets pretty dusty in the summer months. We have some trees near the entrance which give a bit of shade, but mostly it’s just the open sun. The classrooms are simple. We have the usual blackboards and wooden benches that have seen many students come and go. People in Anand know this area for being a bit quieter. We get kids from the nearby houses and some who come from the outskirts on their cycles. It’s a local school through and through. The teachers are mostly from around here too, so everyone knows each other’s families. We don’t have a big office or a reception desk with a phone that never stops ringing. It’s just a desk in the corner of the main hall. We spend our days mostly just getting through the lessons. When it rains, the sound on the roof is so loud we have to stop talking for a minute. It’s just one of those things you get used to. We aren't trying to be the most modern place around, just a school for the village.
