Down on the Borsad Vasad Road, you will see our gate. We are right there in Borsad, which is a busy area in Anand. Most people around here know where Saraswati Shishukunj is because they see the kids walking in every morning. It’s a simple setup. We have the main building and some space for the children to run around when they aren't in class. The mornings are usually the loudest time of the day. You hear the morning songs and then the quiet as everyone settles into their seats. We spend our days mostly dealing with books and chalk and making sure the fans are working when it gets humid. This part of Gujarat can get quite warm, so we try to keep the rooms as airy as possible. The staff usually brings their lunch from home, and we sit together in the break room when there is a spare moment. It’s not a big corporate operation. It’s just us teachers and the helpers making sure the school runs. We have been on this road for a long time. You see the same faces every year, just the kids get taller. In the evenings, after the final bell, we walk through the halls to make sure the lights are off. It’s a quiet life but we stay busy. There is always something to fix or a parent coming by to ask about their child’s progress.
