Khalsa College in Amritsar is a place many people recognize as soon as they see the grand red brick buildings. It’s located on Chheharta Road and has been a part of Punjab's landscape for a very long time. The architecture is old-style with domes and towers that look quite impressive against the sky. Despite the grand look, it’s a working college where thousands of students come every day. The campus is huge, with long gravel paths and big grassy fields where students sit between their classes. You can hear the sounds of young people talking in Punjabi and English all over the place. It’s a busy spot, especially near the main gates where the rickshaws and buses drop everyone off. We have many departments, from agriculture to the arts, and each one has its own old wing. The hallways have high ceilings and heavy wooden doors. It takes a while to walk from one end of the campus to the other. There is a lot of history in the walls here, and you can see old photographs in some of the main offices. It’s not just a school; it’s a landmark for the city. Even though it’s a big institution, it still feels like a local place where the staff knows the students by name. We just go about our business of teaching and learning, surrounded by these old, beautiful buildings every day. It is a special but very busy life here.
