Ganpati Marbles & Granites

Our shop, Ganpati Marbles & Granites, is located on Grand Trunk Road. We are pretty easy to find because we’re right near the canal in the New Amritsar Colony. Being on the GT Road means there’s a lot of traffic passing by all the time, which brings people in. We have a mix of marble and granite sitting out in the yard. It’s a dusty place, especially with the wind coming off the main road. We spend a lot of our time just organizing the slabs and keeping them safe. People come in from all over Amritsar looking for flooring materials. We don't do much fancy stuff; we just sell the stone as it comes from the supplier. My brother and I run the place together. We usually have a tea in the morning before the first trucks show up with new stock. The canal nearby is a good landmark for people who get lost trying to find the colony. We have different types of Indian stones, some from Rajasthan and some from further south. It’s interesting to see the different patterns in every new load that arrives. We try to keep a good variety so people have choices for their homes. It’s not a polished corporate office. It’s a working yard where we get our hands dirty every day. Sometimes the rain makes it a bit messy, but that’s part of the trade. We’ve been here in the colony for several years now. We just do our work and head home. It is a decent life.
