Ultratech Cement Limited

I’m staying at the Engineers Dormitory, Room No. 12, in the NCCL Colony at Jafarabad. This is out in the Amreli district of Gujarat, right near the coast. Living in a dormitory means you’re always close to the work. It’s a simple room, nothing fancy, just a place to rest after a long shift at the cement plant. The town of Jafarabad is known for its fishing and its industry, and we are right in the middle of it. The wind comes off the sea, but it mostly just carries the dust from the plant. We spend our time looking at blueprints, checking the machinery, and making sure the production lines don't stop. It’s a lot of technical work mixed with some old-fashioned sweat. We don't have a marketing department here; we just have a bunch of guys in hard hats trying to get the job done. The colony is a mix of people from all over, but we’ve become a sort of family. We eat at the mess together and talk about the day’s problems or the news. It’s a practical life. You learn to appreciate the small things, like a cold drink after being near the kilns all day. We are just here to do our jobs and make sure the cement gets out to the customers without any trouble. It’s basic, honest work in a part of the country that never stops.
