You can find us over at D-62 in the UTCL Colony, which is out in Rajula, Amreli. It’s a quiet corner of Gujarat compared to the big cities, but things stay busy here at the cement plant. Most of us stay right on the grounds in the colony quarters. It makes the commute short, though you never really feel like you’ve left work entirely. The air carries that dry, salty scent sometimes because we aren't too far from the coast. Working with cement means your clothes usually have a thin layer of gray on them by the end of the shift. We spend our days managing the limestone and the kilns. It’s heavy work and it’s loud, but it keeps the local economy moving. Folks in Rajula know us as the place with the tall chimneys. We don't spend time on big speeches or polished posters. We just focus on the orders coming in. If a truck needs loading, we get it done. The town has grown around the industry, and we are just one part of that machine. In the evenings, the colony is where we relax, maybe play a bit of cricket or just sit outside the blocks. It’s a decent life, filled with the hum of the plant in the background. We’ve been here long enough to call this place home and we know everyone by name around the site.
