We are based out of house 1524 in Devgire Nagaranjangaon. Around here, everyone knows everyone by their first name. We started this group because doing everything alone was getting way too difficult for most of the small farms in our area. The weather in Vidharbh is no joke, it gets really hot and the ground turns hard as a rock in the summer. We spend a lot of time just sitting around a wooden table trying to figure out the best way to move our bags of harvest to the bigger towns. Sometimes the trucks are late and we have to wait around drinking tea for hours. It’s mostly just us locals working together. We aren't trying to be some big corporation with fancy suits. We just want to make sure the crops we grow with our own hands don't go to waste in the field. My cousin handles some of the paperwork, though he’s definitely better with a plow than a pen. We have a small shed for keeping things dry when the monsoon starts. It’s a bit cramped inside with all the tools, but it works for now. You can usually find someone at the office late in the evening if the sun was too hot to work during the day. We share tools and advice, mostly about which seeds worked best last season. It’s a lot of physical labor every day. My back hurts most evenings but that's just part of the job. We keep moving forward. The land here is what we have, so we take care of it as best as we can.
