Jeevanvikas Shetkari Producer Company Limited is based in Warkhed, which is a small village in the Tiwasa taluka of Amravati. We are a bunch of farmers—or shetkari as we say here—who decided it was time to work as one unit. The name Jeevanvikas relates to life development, and that is what we are aiming for, just in a very practical, everyday way. Amravati has its challenges, especially with the water situation sometimes, so being part of a group helps us manage things a bit better. Our office in Warkhed is pretty modest. It is just a place where we sit down, drink some tea, and talk about the current rates for our crops. We handle whatever the local land produces, and we try to make sure everyone in the group gets a fair deal. We don’t use a lot of fancy words or corporate strategies. To be honest, most of us would rather be out in the fields than filling out forms. But we know that having this company helps us get better access to things we need, like seeds or advice. It is a real community effort. We are not looking to become some huge multi-national; we just want the families in Tiwasa to have a steadier life. It is a slow process, but we are all in it together, working hard every single season to make sure the harvest counts for something.
