At House Number 120 in Ramegaon, things are pretty quiet most of the time. Gavshivar Agro Producer Company Limited is run from here, and the name basically means the fields of the village, which is exactly what we care about. We are a small group and we don't have a big office with glass windows. It is just a regular house where we keep our files and meet up after the day's work is done. Ramegaon is the kind of place where everyone knows whose tractor is passing by just by the sound of the engine. We spend a lot of time discussing the soil and what the monsoon might bring this year. Sometimes we have to travel quite a bit to see the different plots and talk to the farmers. We started this because we wanted to have more control over where our produce goes once it leaves the village. It is a lot of hard work and there are many days when things don't go as planned. The paperwork can be a headache, and none of us really likes sitting behind a desk for too long. We would much rather be outside in the fields. But we know it has to be done if we want to get a fair price. We are just local people trying to help each other out in a practical way, without any of the big corporate promises or polished talk that doesn't mean much here.
