At Plot No. 2806 in Phase-4 of the Gidc, it stays pretty cold. Making ice is what we do every single day. We have these big tanks and the cooling system runs almost all the time. You can hear the hum of the compressors from the street. It’s a bit of a damp environment because of all the water and the melting frost. In the peak of summer, this place is a madhouse. Everyone in the area needs ice blocks for something, whether it’s for keeping fish fresh or for large events. The trucks start lining up before the sun is even up. We have to be quick with the hooks to move those heavy blocks out of the freezing chambers. It’s hard on the back and your hands stay cold even if you wear gloves. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while now. The building isn't much to look at, just a functional space for the machines and the loading area. We don't do much advertising because the ice speaks for itself and the heat does the selling for us. Sometimes the power goes out and then we really have to scramble to keep things from melting. It’s a lot of manual labor and staying on top of the machinery maintenance. We just keep our heads down and keep the water flowing through the system to make sure we don't run out of stock when people need it most.
