Ohum Masala

Our place is located on the first floor of J K Market, which is right near Madhupura Chowk. You have to walk up some fairly narrow stairs to find Ohum Masala. It can be a bit of a struggle if you are carrying something heavy, but we have gotten used to it over the years. The market is always bustling, especially in the early mornings when everyone is setting up their stalls. We have a small window that looks out towards the chowk, though it is usually covered in too much dust to see anything clearly. Most of our day is spent mixing and weighing out various masalas for our customers. It is very dusty work, and everyone here usually has a bit of a cough from the chili powder floating in the air. We don't have any big signs or bright lights to draw people in. It’s just the door and our name on a small plaque. Mostly it is local people who come up the stairs to see us. We have been doing this for a long time now. We know almost everyone who works in the other shops around the market. Sometimes we sit and have tea together if the morning isn't too busy. We don't have any big corporate plans or a fancy office. We just want to make sure the blends are right and the bags are sealed properly so nothing spills. It is just how we do things here. The space is small, but it works fine for what we need.
