Lakhani Spices House

Lakhani Spices House is tucked away in Shed No 28, which is number 1166 in the area. We are right opposite the BPCL petrol pump in the village of Santej. It is an industrial kind of spot, so it is not exactly pretty to look at. We have a lot of space in the shed though, which is good because spices take up a lot of room once you start stacking the bags. The smell inside the shed is something else. Some days it is all cumin and other days it is red chili that makes everyone cough. We don't have fancy air conditioning or anything, just some big fans to keep the air moving so it doesn't get too stuffy. My day usually starts with checking the arrivals from the trucks. The drivers often pull over at the pump across the street first and then swing around to our gate. We are just a small group of people working here. We don't have a website that looks like a magazine. We just have our scales and our packing supplies. Most of the time, I am busy making sure the labels are straight and the weights are correct. It is repetitive work, but it pays the bills and keeps us busy. Santej is a quiet place otherwise, and we have gotten used to the rhythm of the village and the highway nearby.
