Bharatiya Kasab

Our place is located in the Opera Society Part-II in Paldi, which is a fairly busy part of the city. We are right across from Annapurna Hall and the New Vikas Gruh, so it’s easy for people to find us once they get to the neighborhood. Bharatiya Kasab is really just a bunch of us working on traditional embroidery and handiwork. The office is usually packed with rolls of fabric and boxes of colorful threads. It’s not the most organized place in the world, and there is always a bit of dust flying around from the textiles, but we manage to get things done. Most of the people who work here have been doing this kind of handwork since they were kids. We don't have any fancy marketing people or a big corporate office. It’s just a ground-floor space where we take orders and check over the pieces coming in. During the wedding season, things get really frantic and we’re often here late into the night. We sit on cushions on the floor a lot of the time because it’s easier for the kind of work we do. People from the neighborhood often drop by just to chat or see what new designs we are working on. We don’t really worry about being a big brand; we just focus on making sure the stitches are tight and the patterns look right before anything leaves the door. It's just a regular local business where we do our thing.
