Ammar Dawoodi Bohra Spices

We are based in Dhandhuka, tucked away behind the Ganpati Mandir and quite near the police station. It is a quiet corner of town, but we stay busy with our spice business. We have been working with spices for a long time and we don't feel the need to change the way we do things. Most of the work is manual. We sort through the dried chilies and peppercorns by hand to make sure nothing bad gets into the mix. It is slow work and it takes a lot of time, but we think it makes a difference. The shop is quite old and the wooden shelves are a bit bowed from the weight of the spice jars. We don't have a website or any fancy advertisements. Usually, people just hear about us from their neighbors or see us when they are visiting the temple. We take pride in the fact that we know exactly where our spices come from. On hot days, the smell in the shop can be very intense, but we have gotten used to it over the years. We spend our time weighing out small packets and chatting with the people who come in. It is a very local operation and we like it that way. We aren't trying to expand or become a big brand. We just want to provide good, clean spices to the people in Dhandhuka and the surrounding villages.
