Down here at 2601/1 Kadianaka on Jordan Road, things stay pretty busy with all the construction going on around Dariapur. Akash Ceramic is basically a place filled with stacks of boxes and heavy ceramic slabs. If you walk in, you’ll see we have tiles for everything—floors, walls, bathrooms, you name it. It’s not a fancy showroom with bright lights; it’s more of a practical shop where you come to find something that fits your budget. We spend a lot of our time moving heavy crates around and checking for cracks. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck in the narrow streets of Jordan Road, and we have to figure out how to get the tiles out. People come in looking for specific patterns they saw somewhere else, and we try to find something similar in our stock. It’s a lot of manual work, and our hands are usually dusty by the end of the day. We deal with local contractors and people just trying to fix up their own bathrooms. There’s always a bit of a wait when we’re loading up a rickshaw with bags of grout and boxes of tiles. We don’t have a big corporate team, just a few of us who know where everything is kept in the back. It’s a straightforward business. We sell ceramics, we give you the bill, and you take them away to get your house finished.
