Agra Marble Shoppy

If you walk toward the Eastern Gate of the Taj Mahal, you’ll probably see us standing around. Agra Marble Shoppy is basically right in the middle of all the noise where the tourists and the guides are constantly walking by. It gets really crowded out there on the street, especially in the early mornings when people are rushing to see the monument. Our shop is packed with marble pieces, everything from tiny things you can stick in a pocket to those big slabs that take three of us just to move an inch. There is always white dust on the floor no matter how many times we try to sweep it up because that is just what happens with marble. We spend a lot of time showing people the different patterns in the stone. Some of it is very bright white and some has those grey or green veins running through it. It’s hard work moving the heavy stuff around when the heat is high, and the tea guy comes by a few times a day to keep us all moving. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just walk in because they see the marble pieces sitting out on the pavement. Sometimes we sit on the steps and just watch the crowds go by when things are slow. It’s a good enough spot to be, even if it’s loud with the rickshaws. We just keep the doors open and wait to see who is interested.
