Universal Cold Storage Ltd is located at No.4/139 on J.P. Road in Pedaamiram. It’s a big, plain building that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it’s what happens inside that counts. We spend our whole day surrounded by the hum of the cooling units. It’s funny because it can be boiling hot out on J.P. Road, but as soon as you step inside, you need a heavy jacket. We’ve been in Pedaamiram for a long time now, and we’ve seen the area change a bit, but we just keep doing our thing. Our days are filled with moving pallets and checking temperatures. It’s not the kind of work that gets you a lot of praise, but it’s necessary for all the local businesses that need to keep their goods from spoiling. We don't have a fancy office or any marketing people running around. It’s just us, the forklift drivers, and the guys checking the logs. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to stay late to fix them, but that’s part of the deal. Most of the staff are from right here in the neighborhood, so we all walk home at the end of the shift. We don't talk much about our goals; we just focus on making sure the power stays on and the rooms stay cold. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living, and we’re happy to be part of the local landscape here.
