Our facility is located in Mogallu, within the Palakoderu area. Being out here means we are close to where the work actually happens. At Sri Venkata Padmavathi Marine Foods Pvt. Ltd., our mornings start way before the sun is up. That’s when the fresh catch starts coming in and everything has to be sorted and packed into ice right away. The floors are almost always wet and there is a constant smell of the sea and fresh fish in the air. We wear rubber boots and aprons because the work is messy and there is a lot of water involved. It’s a large, open space with plenty of light from the overhead lamps. We don't have much of a formal office, just a small partitioned area with a desk where the records are kept. Most of our staff are locals from around Mogallu who know the trade well. We spend the day processing the marine food and getting the crates loaded onto the refrigerated trucks. It’s loud because of the ice crushers and the people shouting to be heard over the machinery. When the last truck leaves, we spend a good amount of time hosing everything down to keep it clean. It’s hard, physical work and we just focus on getting the food moved out as fresh as we possibly can for the trade every single day.
