Standard Steel Co. is tucked away in Gali No-7 in Mohan Market. It’s a busy spot near Mohan Mandir, and you can usually hear the bells from the temple while we work. The shop at Be-431 isn't anything fancy, just a place where we get things done every day. We’ve been here in Hari Nagar for quite some time now. The street is pretty narrow, so getting the bigger loads in and out can be a bit of a headache sometimes. My father started things here and now we just keep it going. There’s always dust from the steel and the sound of heavy metal moving around. It gets hot in the summer, really hot, but we have a couple of old fans that keep the air moving a little. We don’t spend much on decorations or flashy signs. The one we have is actually starting to peel at the edges. Most people who come here are regulars from the neighborhood or guys we’ve known for years. We handle the orders as they come, writing everything down in big ledgers. It’s a simple way of doing things but it works for us. Sometimes the tea guy stops by twice a day and we take a short break on the wooden benches outside. Life moves fast in the market but inside these walls, it’s just the same steady rhythm of work. We aren't trying to change the world, just supplying steel.
