Nalanda Cottage Industries

Nalanda Cottage Industries is found at 8198, Chimni Mill. This is right in the Bara Hindu Rao area, near the old Filmistan Cinema. You can really feel the history of Rani Jhansi Raod when you walk around here. The building we are in is very old. It was part of the mill a long time ago. The ceilings are high and the walls are thick, which helps keep it cool when the sun is out. We have piles of things everywhere. Fabric, tools, and boxes ready to go out are stacked in the corners. It looks a bit disorganized, but we know exactly where everything is. We do most of the work with our hands. There is always a lot of cutting and sewing going on. Our sewing machines are old and have been fixed many times, but they still run well enough for us. The light comes in from windows high up on the walls. We don't have any big signs or advertisements outside to attract people. Most of our work comes from people who have known us for a long time. We drink tea from the stall nearby a few times a day. We like to talk about how the area has changed and how busy the cinema used to be. Now it’s quieter, but we are still here doing our work. We just want to get through the day's tasks and then go home.
