Ruchi Handicarft

Ruchi Handicarft is run out of a spot in LIC Colony, Jeewan Niketan, in Paschim Vihar. It’s G-126, which is more of a residential-feeling area compared to the big industrial parks. Because we are in a colony, it’s usually quieter, but our workspace is quite cramped. We have shelves everywhere filled with scraps of fabric, wood, and various tools we use for our crafts. It’s not the most organized place, but we know where everything is. Most days are spent sitting at the worktables, cutting or painting or assembling things by hand. It takes a long time to finish even one piece, so there’s a lot of sitting still and focusing. We don’t have any automated machines; it’s all done with our own hands and simple tools. Sometimes neighbors pop in to say hello because everyone knows we’re here at G-126. We don’t really have a big showroom. If you come by, you’ll just see us working amidst the mess of glue and paint. It’s a slow kind of business. We don't rush through the work because you can't really rush this kind of stuff without making mistakes. We have a few cupboards where we keep the finished items, wrapped up so they don't get dusty. It’s just a small, local operation where we do our own thing every day and try to keep up with the small orders we get. We often stay late just to finish one small detail.
