Mahalaxmi Handicraft

Down at 256/3 in Paschim Puri, you will find Mahalaxmi Handicraft. It is a small place, and most of the time it smells like wood shavings and some of the dyes we use. We don't have a lot of space, so we have to be very careful about how we organize our materials. Every shelf is packed with something, whether it’s finished pieces or stuff we are still working on. We started this because we liked working with our hands, and that is still the main thing we do every day. The people who work here are more like friends than employees. We sit around the main table and talk while we work on different projects. Paschim Puri is a good place for a shop like ours because there are always people around who appreciate something made by hand. We don't have a big marketing budget or a website that looks like it cost a fortune. We just rely on people seeing what we make and telling their friends about us. Some days are slow, and we just spend them cleaning the tools or organizing the scraps. Other days, we have more work than we can handle, and we stay late into the evening. It’s a bit unpredictable, but that’s just how it goes when you’re making things yourself. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else but right here in this little workshop.
