G & J Furnishings

We are up on the second floor at 59/12 in Ashok Nagar. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, especially when we’re carrying heavy rolls of upholstery or curtain fabric. The building is right in the middle of everything, so it’s never really quiet. G & J Furnishings has been here for a while, and the space is pretty packed. We have samples of drapes and sofa covers tucked into every available shelf. It is not the most modern office, but it is practical. We spend most of our time looking at textures and checking if the dye lots match. Customers come by, but it is mostly us dealing with the suppliers and making sure the measurements are correct. If you get a measurement wrong, the whole piece is ruined, so we are pretty careful about that. The light in the afternoon is actually quite good for seeing the true colors of the cloth. We usually have the radio playing low in the corner while we work. It’s a small team, so everyone does a bit of everything, from answering the phone to packing the bags for delivery. It is not a corporate setup at all. We just know our fabrics and we know our regulars. Sometimes we run out of space and have to stack things in the hallway for an hour or two. That is just life in a busy shop in this area.
