Carnations Dream Oven

Carnations Dream Oven is Shop No.4 in the Aks Complex, over at 49/43 Punjabi Bagh West. It’s a nice little corner of the neighborhood. The best part of the day is early morning when the first trays of bread and biscuits come out of the oven. The whole complex starts to smell like butter and sugar, which usually brings people in before we are even fully ready. The shop itself is small, with just enough room for the display cases and a few people to stand. We have a small kitchen in the back where all the mixing and baking happens. It’s usually a bit of a mess with flour on the floor and empty egg crates stacked by the door. We don't have a professional decorator or anything; we just put up a few pictures we liked. Our staff is just a few local people who enjoy baking. We don't use any complicated machines, mostly just our hands and some old ovens that we’ve learned how to handle just right. Sometimes a cake doesn't rise perfectly or a batch of cookies gets a bit too brown, but we just set those aside and try again. Most of our regulars live just a few blocks away and stop by on their way home from work. We like seeing the same faces every day. It feels more like a community spot than just a business, which makes the early hours easier.
