Bhasin Crockery Corner

If you go to the Chhoti Subzi Mandi in Janakpuri, you’ll find Bhasin Crockery Corner at 18/1. It’s a bit of a tight fit inside because we try to keep a lot of stock on the shelves. Crockery is tricky because everything is breakable, so we have to be careful when moving things around. The shop floor is usually covered in bubble wrap or straw from the packing crates. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but we know where everything is. People come in looking for plates or bowls for their homes, and we spend time helping them find sets that match. We’ve seen the market change a lot over the years, but 18/1 stays pretty much the same. The shelves are wooden and probably need a new coat of paint, but they do the job. We don’t have a fancy computer system for everything; a lot of it is still written down in the registers. It’s just easier that way for us. Sometimes the power goes out in the market, and we have to use candles, which makes the glass items look pretty interesting. We’re not a big department store. We’re just a small corner shop where you can find everyday kitchen stuff. It’s a lot of cleaning and dusting to keep things looking decent. We like being part of the Janakpuri area and seeing the regular faces every week.
