Our office for Wardhavalley Farmer Producer Companylimited is at Ashok Dadaji Dhobe’s place in Shiwani, which is in the Maregaon tehsil. We are right in the heart of the valley area. It’s a beautiful place but farming here takes a lot out of you. We are a group of neighbors who realized that if we didn't start working together, we were all going to struggle. So we set up this company. It’s mostly just a way to pool our resources. We don’t have a receptionist or a fancy sign out front. You just come to Shiwani and ask for Ashok’s house and you’ll find us. We deal with all sorts of crops depending on what the season brings. There is a lot of talk about the weather, since that’s what our lives depend on. We try to keep our expenses low so that more money goes back to the people doing the actual farming. The office is usually filled with the smell of the fields and sometimes a bit of mud on the floor. We don't mind. We are more comfortable out in the dirt anyway. We spend a lot of time trying to figure out the government rules and how to get our registrations right. It’s not easy, but we have a good group of people who don't mind putting in the extra hours. When the river rises, it changes how we have to move everything around, but we've lived here long enough to know the rhythms.
