Out here in Amgaon, things move a bit slower than they do in the big cities. We are located in Wardha district, specifically at the post office area of Amgaon, working out of Shri Mahadeorao Annaji Misal’s place. Vidarbha Jaivik Sheti Mission Farmerproducer Company Limited is basically just us farmers trying to do things a bit differently. We’ve all seen how the land gets tired when you use too many chemicals, so we wanted to focus on jaivik sheti, which is just the old way of organic farming our ancestors did. It’s hard work, and the pests don't always cooperate, but we think it’s better for the soil in the long run. We meet up at Mahadeorao's house to discuss things like composting and which crops might grow better this season. It’s not a fancy office with air conditioning or anything like that. Usually, there’s tea and a lot of talking about the weather. Wardha can be a tough place to farm because of the heat, but being part of this group makes it feel a bit easier. We share what we know and try to help each other when someone’s tractor breaks down or the labor is short. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to keep our own farms healthy and maybe get a fair price for what we grow. It's a simple life, and we like it that way. Most of us have been in Wardha our whole lives.
