Shetiratna Farmer Producer Companylimited is based in Maharchinka, which is near Lonar in the Buldhana district. We run things from Pandhari Sakharam Ghuge’s house, right at house number 18. Living near Lonar is interesting because of the history of the land, but for us, it’s mostly about the day-to-day struggle of getting things to grow in the soil. We call ourselves Shetiratna because we think of our land and our crops as our real wealth. Most of the people in our company are small-scale farmers who have just a few acres each. When you are that small, it’s easy for the big buyers to ignore you or offer you very little. But when twenty or thirty of us come together, they have to listen and give us a better deal. We spend a lot of time discussing the right fertilizers and how to deal with the changing weather patterns that seem to get weirder every year. There’s a lot of mud on our boots and grease on our hands most days. We don't have a professional marketing team or anyone like that. We just have a few people who are good with numbers and a lot of people who are good with a plow. It’s an honest way to make a living, even if it doesn't make us rich. We just want to make sure that we can keep doing what we love and that our community stays together for the next generation.
