Mr. Chef

Mr. Chef is located right on Beach Road, just beside the Visakha Museum. It’s a very busy spot, especially when the tourists are around or on the weekends when all the families come down to the water. We don’t have any fancy tablecloths or a big corporate menu with professional photos. It’s just a kitchen where we cook the kind of food people like to eat. The sea breeze comes in through the open door, which is nice, but it also brings in a bit of sand every now and then that we have to sweep up. We spend most of our time prepping vegetables or cleaning up the counters between orders. It’s a small team here. Sometimes we run out of certain dishes if the market was short on supplies that morning. We don’t have a big philosophy about food; we just make sure it tastes okay and fills people up. The museum next door gets a lot of school visitors, so we see all kinds of people coming in for a quick, cheap bite. It’s loud, it’s humid, and the kitchen gets incredibly hot during the lunch rush. We’ve been here long enough that we know the regular walkers who pass by the museum every morning. We aren't looking to open a big chain of restaurants or anything like that. We just like being by the beach and serving food to whoever walks in. It’s a simple life, even if our feet hurt at the end of the day.
