Sukhmay Kisan Producer Company Limited is basically just us farmers here in Jalalabad. We set things up at Ram Niwas’s place in the village of Imaliya. It’s a quiet spot, really just a house where we meet to talk about the crops and how the season is going. There are a lot of us around Paraincha who needed a way to deal with the markets better, so we started this. It isn’t some big office building with fancy glass windows. It’s just a room with some chairs and a lot of talk about seeds and weather. Most days you’ll find someone sitting out front, probably worrying about the rain or the lack of it. We all know each other here. If you walk through the village, you’ll see the fields we work on. Being a kisan means your hands are always dirty and you’re always tired, but that’s just how life is. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It is just the local people from around here trying to make sure our produce gets where it needs to go without too much trouble. Sometimes the paperwork gets confusing, but we manage. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to keep our farms going and help the families in Imaliya. If you come by, expect a cup of tea and some honest talk about the harvest.
