We are over at Chhedi Singh’s place in the area of Semara Rajalaxmipur. Most of the people around here just call it Shivala. It is a very humble setup. We do not have a large corporate building or a big staff of people. It is just us farmers coming together to manage our own crops and the sales. We spend a lot of time sitting around the table at Chhedi's house, going over the numbers and planning for the next season. The roads around this part of the country can be quite rough, especially after the heavy rains, so getting our produce moved is always a bit of a struggle. We started this because we wanted to have more control over what happens to our goods after they leave our fields. It is not always easy, and there are plenty of days when we disagree on how things should be done, but that is just what happens when you have many different people involved. We are proud to be from this part of Purvanchal. There is a lot of history in the soil we work. We try to keep things simple and avoid all the complicated business talk you hear from people in the bigger cities. Most of us have known each other since we were small children, so it feels more like a big family than a real company. We just do the work, look after the land, and try to make sure everyone gets a fair deal.
