We’re over in Village Gahilapur, near the Khanpur post. Jitendra Singh’s place is where we mostly handle our business. It started because a few of us felt like we weren't getting anywhere working by ourselves. Now we’re a formal group. It’s not always easy keeping everything organized, especially when everyone is busy with their own land. We mostly focus on what the farmers in Gahilapur are growing this season. Sometimes we have meetings to talk about seeds or tools we might need. It gets noisy when everyone has an opinion on how to do things. The village life is quiet until it's time to harvest, then it's all hands on deck. We don't have a big corporate setup. It's just a room with some files and a lot of talk about soil and rain. Some days are good, some are frustrating when the transport doesn't show up or the prices drop suddenly. We just take it as it comes. It's about sticking together so nobody gets left behind. We manage the paperwork at Jitendra’s place and try to keep things moving. It’s basic, honest work. If you know the village, you know where to find us. We’re usually around talking shop or checking on the bags of produce waiting to go out to the market. We are just local people trying to make a living the best way we know how.
