Krishna Bricks

Village Bohar is where you can find Krishna Bricks. We are out here near the Pink Hospital in Cholapur. The ground here is good for making bricks, which is why we’ve been at it for a while. Varanasi gets really hot in the summer, and that's when we're busiest. The kiln is always burning and there's smoke in the air, but it means work is getting done. We have a bunch of workers who live nearby and they know the rhythm of the place. It’s a lot of stacking and moving. My office is just a small room with a fan that makes too much noise. People from the city and the nearby villages come here when they want to build a wall or a whole house. We don't do much talking on the phone, mostly people just show up and ask what we have ready. The roads around here can be tricky for the big trucks, but they find their way. We've seen many buildings go up around Teshil Varanasi using what we make here. It feels okay knowing we had a hand in that. Sometimes the rain stops us for a few days and everything gets muddy, but we just wait it out. It's not a glamorous life, but it's ours. We drink a lot of water and keep the fires going. If you come by Cholapur, just ask for the brick field near the hospital. We've been making these for years and don't plan on stopping soon.
