Our place is at Bangla No 43-A on Mall Road. It’s an old area near the Government Tourist Office in the Cantt side of Varanasi. The building has that old style with high ceilings, not like the new concrete blocks you see everywhere now. We spend a lot of time just looking out at the traffic on Mall Road while we wait for the phone to ring. It’s a bit more organized here than in the old city, but it still gets loud during the day. My brother and I sit in the office most of the day. We have a few computers that we use for bookings, but most of our time is spent talking to people who walk in off the street. It’s handy being near the tourist office because people wander over after they get their maps. We mostly arrange cars for long trips or just local sightseeing. The trees around here give some shade, which is really nice in the summer when the sun is biting. Sometimes we have tea brought in from the stall down the road. We’ve been at this for a while now. The name Ind Travels & Tours has been on the door for years. We don’t have a marketing team. It’s just us. Sometimes the phone rings and it’s someone lost looking for the bungalow. We just tell them to look for the big gate and the sign near the road.
