Dayakishan Farmer Producer Company

Dayakishan Farmer Producer Company is located in Village Tenga, right near the Chadrau post. The whole thing is run through Jagbhan Singh, who is Dayaram’s son. We started this because the local farmers needed a way to stay connected. Tenga is a small place, and most of us have been farming these same plots of land for generations. It’s not a glamorous job. You spend a lot of time worrying about pests and whether the market price will drop before you can sell anything. Being part of this producer company makes things a little less stressful. We share what we know and try to coordinate our harvests. Our setup at Jagbhan’s place is very basic. It’s a spot where we can store some supplies and keep our books in order. We don't use big words or have a "vision" in the way city companies do. We just want to keep the farms running so our kids have something to hold onto. Every person involved is a neighbor. We see each other at the market and at the tea stall. There is a lot of mud on our boots and grease under our fingernails, which is how you know we are actually doing the work. It’s just a group of people from Tenga trying to make a living from the ground beneath us.
