Chakiya Samriddhi Mahila Producer Company Limited

Chakiya Samriddhi Mahila Producer Company Limited is a bit different because it’s mostly the women from around Sahudullapur and Chakiya running the show. We meet up at Savitri Devi’s place. It’s a busy house, usually someone is cooking or kids are running around while we try to talk about business. We decided that we needed to have our own group to manage our produce better. It’s a lot of work on top of everything else we do at home, but it feels right. We aren't experts in big business, but we know our crops and we know how hard we work in the fields. Sometimes the meetings go on forever because everyone has something to say about the grain quality or the transport costs to the city. We don't have a fancy board room, just a porch and some tea. It gets hot in Chakiya, and the work is tiring, but being together makes it a bit easier to handle the stress of farming. Savitri keeps us organized as much as she can. We aren't looking to be famous or anything. We just want to make sure the women here get a fair share for what they grow. It’s a simple setup, but it’s ours, and we are doing the best we can with what we’ve got in this village. We might not have everything figured out yet, but we are learning more about the trade every day we sit together.
