Shree Surti Bakery

Shree Surti Bakery is located at Mahajan Gali Naka in the Raopura area of Vadodara. If you know the old city, you know how narrow and crowded these lanes can get. Our bakery has been sitting on this corner for many years. The building shows its age, but that’s part of the charm. We have these big, traditional ovens that have been seasoned over decades. They give everything we bake a specific taste that is different from modern electric ovens. We start our work very early, usually around two or three in the morning. That’s when we mix the flour and get the first batches ready. By daybreak, the smell of baking bread and rusks fills up the whole Gali. People living nearby probably use the smell as their alarm clock. We don't have a big staff. It’s just a few of us who have been doing this for a long time. We know the dough by the way it feels under our hands. We don't use many fancy tools. It’s mostly manual labor, tray after tray. We sell most of our stuff right at the front counter. It’s mostly regulars who come by, people we’ve known for years. We aren't looking to become a big chain or anything. We just like being the local bakery in Raopura. It’s a lot of heat and hard work, but we wouldn't know what else to do.
