Our place, Samrat Ashok Mahan Public School And College, sits right at Samrat Chauraha on the Salatwada Main Road in Vadodara. Because we are right at the crossroads, there is always something happening outside the windows. You hear the rickshaws and the bikes all day long. We’ve got both the younger school kids and the older college students in the same general area, which makes for a very busy environment. It’s a bit of a maze inside sometimes, especially when the classes are switching over. We don't have a giant campus with fields, but we make use of the space we have in Salatwada. The teachers here are mostly people who live nearby, so they don't have far to commute. We keep things pretty simple. There isn't a lot of fancy technology in every room, just chalkboards and desks. We focus on getting the work done and making sure the students are actually paying attention. It’s a lot of management, honestly. Trying to keep the noise down and the students in their seats is a full-time job on its own. The Samrat Chauraha area is always crowded, so drop-off and pick-up times are a bit of a nightmare, but we’ve worked out a system over the years. We’re just a local spot where kids from the neighborhood come to get through their schooling. It isn't perfect, but it works for the people who live around here and need a place for their children.
