S. K. Engineering

We’ve been here in Makarpura for a good while now. Our spot is Flat No-309/15, right in the middle of the GIDC area where everything is always moving and shaking. If you walk by S. K. Engineering, you’ll mostly hear the hum of the machines and see metal dust on the floor. It isn't a fancy office with air conditioning or soft chairs. It’s a workshop, plain and simple. My hands are usually dirty by nine in the morning, and that is just how it goes when you’re doing this kind of work every day. The neighborhood is full of other units, so there is always a truck backing up or someone shouting over a lathe. We stay busy with the day-to-day stuff that comes through the door. Sometimes the power cuts out and we just sit outside for a bit of air until it comes back on. It’s hot in the afternoons here in Makarpura, especially when the machines have been running since sunrise. We don’t spend much time on the computer or writing emails. Most people just stop by the gate and ask if we can fix something or make a part. We just get on with the jobs as they come in. There’s a tea stall not far from our unit where we go when things get too loud or we need a break from the metal. It gets dusty and the floor is stained, but that’s engineering for you. We keep the tools in their places and just keep at it.
