Our office is right across from the old Alpana Cinema here in Vadodara. If you know the area, you know it gets pretty crowded around there during the day. Construction isn't really a clean job, so there is always some dust on the desks and the floor. We spend most of our time out on the sites anyway. We have a small crew of guys who have been with us for years. They know how to handle the bricks and the cement without needing much direction. Gujarat summers are no joke, so we usually start the work as soon as the sun comes up and then take a long break when it gets too hot to breathe. We build things like small houses or maybe a shop front here and there. It is honest work and it keeps us busy. The equipment we use is a bit older, but we take care of it so it doesn't break down when we need it most. We don't go in for big presentations or fancy drawings unless we really have to. Most of the time, we just talk to the people, figure out what they want, and start digging. It’s a straightforward way to run things. The name on the sign might be a bit grand, but we are just regular people trying to make sure the walls stay straight and the roofs don't leak when the rain comes.
