Down here at the B.I.D.C. Gorwa Estate, things are a bit different than the shiny offices you see in the city. We are spread across 3/29 and 4/19, which means a lot of walking back and forth between the units during the day. The estate is always humming with the sound of other factories and trucks moving in and out. It’s an industrial spot, so you expect a bit of grime and noise, and that’s exactly what it is. We spend most of our time looking at membranes and making sure everything is running the way it should be. It’s not glamorous work, but it keeps us occupied. The floor gets dusty pretty fast, no matter how much we try to keep it clean with the brooms. We have our small office corner where we sit down to handle the orders and the phone calls. Lunch is usually brought from home in tiffins, and we sit around and talk about whatever is on the news. The weather gets really hot in the afternoons, especially under the metal shed roofs, so we drink a lot of water and try to stay in the shade when we can. We’ve been in this part of Gorwa for years now, and we know the rhythms of the place, like when the power might flicker or when the delivery trucks are going to show up at the gate. It’s just how we work.
