Chandubhai Amichand Panchal

The workshop known as Chandubhai Amichand Panchal is over at Plot No. 78 in the Gidc Ind. Estate, specifically around units 2-12. This place has been around for a long time, started by Chandubhai himself. It isn't a big factory with hundreds of people; it’s more of a traditional setup where everyone knows each other’s names. We do a lot of metalwork and fabrication. The walls are stained with oil and there are metal shavings in every corner. It’s the kind of place where you have to watch where you step. We don’t have a website or a sales team. Most people find us because they’ve heard about us from someone else in the estate. We spend our days cutting, welding, and grinding. It’s loud and the sparks are always flying. We don’t use any big words to describe what we do. If a piece of metal needs to be shaped, we shape it. The benches are heavy wood and have been scarred by years of work. Sometimes we sit out front when the weather is nice to have a break and watch the trucks go by. We don’t have a fancy mission statement or anything like that. We just believe in doing a decent day's work and going home tired. It’s a simple life at the plot, and we wouldn’t really know how to do it any other way. We just keep the machines running.
