Our little shop, Laxmi Communication, is located in the Pratap Nagar Sankul, over near Camp Cantonment 50. It’s not a very large place, just enough room for the counters and a few chairs for people to sit while they wait for their calls to go through or their papers to be copied. We have a lot of soldiers and their families coming in since we are so close to the camp, so we hear a lot of interesting stories from all over the country. The walls are covered with posters and calendars that have been there for years. We do a bit of everything here—phone cards, some typing, and helping people who aren't sure how to use the new digital apps. The fan on the ceiling wobbles a bit and makes a clicking sound, but it keeps the air moving. On busy days, the shop gets really loud with everyone talking at once, but we like the energy. We’ve been part of the Sankul for a long time now, so we know exactly who likes which newspaper and who is just coming in to escape the sun for a few minutes. It’s a simple life, running a communication shop, and we don't try to make it more than what it is. We just open up in the morning, sweep the front step, and wait for the first person to walk in. Usually, we keep a jar of candy on the counter for the kids who come in with their parents.
